This is a passive program that will run from June through the beginning of school.
The purpose of this program is to fill the learning gap from the end of school until the beginning of school. It is to help reluctant or struggling readers ranging from grades K-4th read with more confidence. Other activities such as word games, writing exercises, and BINGO are used as well.
Past experience has shown that children are more willing to read with someone who is not their parents, and they love reading with older students. A mentorship grows between the reader and the volunteer which enriches both participants' social and emotional skills.
The child will be paired with another older student or adult and each session is about an hour long. Once signed up and paired, the schedule will be adapted to each participant's availability. There is no set program or day.
If interested, please sign up at the front desk of the library.
